Andes and Amazon: SALASACA-SHUAR-OTAVALO

This program gives us the chance to experience the life of indigenous nationalities of the Amazon and of the highlands. The tour begins with a visit to Salasaca, whose members, according to the legend, dress in black for the mourning of the inca Atahualpa, they are considered “mitimaes” (indigenous brought by the incas from Peru and Bolivia to populate the conquered lands). Nowadays they are also famous for their handcrafts. Then we continue towards the Amazon, to visit quichua and shuar communities. This program ends on the land of the Otavalos, at the north of the ecuadorian highlands, where we visit their market and Cuicocha sacred crater lake. Time recommended is 5 days/4 nights in the area.
